Jack Dauner | pianist and composer

Jack Dauner discovered his passion for piano at the early age of five and started composing original music six years later. He focuses on classical music, often incorporating inspirations from nature and wildlife, which he enjoys capturing through the medium of photography, into his musical work. 

 

 

He has participated in festivals such as Pianofest in the Hamptons (East Hampton, New York), Festival 4 Saisons (Lausanne, Switzerland), Festival Lavaux Classic (Cully, Switzerland) Les Concerts D’Artémont (Monthéron, Switzerland), Allegro Vivo Festival (Horn, Austria) and KLANGfrühling (Stadtschlaining, Austria) and played in venues including the Bösendorfer Salon of the Vienna Musikverein, Haydnsaal (Eisenstadt, Austria), and Salle Paderewski (Lausanne, Switzerland). Jack has also performed in concerts at some unusual venues, his favourite being several concerts on the historic Walter Pianoforte at the Haydn Museum in Eisenstadt, Austria and a performance at the Zen Buddhist Centre in Budapest. 

 

Jack has been awarded with numerous national and international prizes, including first prizes at Prima La Musica Austrian National Competition and the Lavaux Classic Festival competition, and other first prizes in Austria, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Spain, and Sweden, and Ukraine, as well as receiving the second prize of the Jenö Takacs Scholarship in 2022. 

 

During his studies, Jack has participated in multiple charitable events, such as concerts in retirement homes and, most recently, he taught in and coordinated the UniSono – Live Music Now project at the Joseph Haydn Private University, finding music teachers for asylum seekers and children in need. 

 

Past composition projects include Toadette, the Frog Opera, an opera with a libretto by Kristin Hurst. First produced as a puppet film, the opera was premiered as a live production in London in 2022 and in Stadtschlaining, Austria in 2023. Recently Jack composed the film score for their feature puppet film Prelude on the Sea, recorded with the Bratislava Symphony Orchestra and conducted by David Hernando Rico.

Jack Dauner was born in 2006 in the French-speaking region of Switzerland to American and German parents. He moved to Austria in 2017 and studies at the Joseph Haydn Private University in Eisenstadt, Austria with Prof. Dr. Stanislaw Tichonow (Bachelor of Arts in Piano Performance) and Prof. Mag. Tibor Nemeth, ArtD. (Bachelor of Arts in Composition). He minors in singing with Doz.in Mag. Sonja Lutz, and accompaniment with doz.in Chariklia Apostolu, MA. He has also participated in masterclasses with Paul Schenly (Cleveland Institute), Michelle Cann (Curtis Institute), and Soyeon Kate Lee (The Juilliard School).
